The information was given by the federal minister for new and renewable energy and power R. K. Singh in written replies in the upper house of the Indian parliament. The minister said the estimate has been provided by the National Institute of Solar Energy based on data from Waste Land Atlas of India 2010. Singh said until the end of last year, 51 solar parks with an aggregate capacity of 37,740 MW have been sanctioned in 12 states in the country since the launch of the scheme in December 2014.
